The Emerald Isle is home to many magical creatures- fairies, leprechauns, and mermaids. Fairies are in charge of Mother Nature. The merpeople control the tides and currents of the sea, and the leprechauns are the mischievous troublemakers who are always trying to mess up the tasks of the other creatures.
Fairies:
They are in charge of Mother Nature. They make the plants and the flowers, and control the seasons and weather. They are ruled by a fairy King and Queen, Boric and Morag. They have a daughter named Ainé, who is in charge specifically of the water lilies. The next level down after Royalty is Chamberlain. He is in charge of executing the King and Queen’s orders. Next come the Counts, who are usually relatives of the Royal family. There are many different types of fairies. Some live in the castle, making flowers and raindrops, etc. Others live in the countryside, tending to the flowers that were put there by other fairies. The most interesting group, however, is called the Anjanas. They live in the streams and swamps of the island. They are part fish or part bird, but not like a mermaid. They usually have some “human” features, but more than half of their body is that of a bird or fish. They also live in woods, and are the most peaceful and quiet of all the fairies.
Leprechauns:
These little troublemakers have very interesting talents. They are able to make themselves invisible, and can use small bits of magic when the need arises. They are the same height as fairies, about one foot. They have bright red hair and pointed ears. They are also very talented dancers, and can weave intricate spells through their dance steps. But perhaps the most fascinating thing about leprechauns is that when they are in love for the first time, they suddenly have the ability to fly. After the said leprechaun has either gotten married or fallen out of love with the “someone”, they cannot fly any more.
Merpeople:
These intelligent creatures are half human and half fish. They control the tides and currents, and are responsible for keeping the island safe. Their most important purpose is to ensure that no human steps foot on the island. Their “country” is called the Koral Kingdom, and their capital city is Atlantis. Most ships are wrecked in the Sapphire Shallows, where treacherous rocks make a perfect wrecking place. They do not usually interact with fairies or leprechauns, but they have been known to take human captives and hide them in caves for their own pleasure.
